Hot Tubs and Corner Grocers

Monday, December 14th, 2009

My grandfather had a grocery store in the same neighborhood that I’m living in, the place where I’m raising a son myself.  I might be a rare thing these days, being one who didn’t move around a lot like so many of my schoolmates have, and have happily settled in the same place I was born.  I like the continuity of it, because it gives me a sense of place here that my immigrant grandparents only dreamed about.  To think I might be living their dream can be a very humbling experience, so on my best days I try to do the kinds of things that would make them proud.

I’m not a stranger in the world I live in.  I like and appreciate all the new technologies we have these days, and some of the things in this world tell me that things are better than they used to be.  I have things that my parents passed down to me, as well as some modern conveniences, things like my hot tub.  It’s one of my favorite possessions, because it gives me a place to relax and spend time with my family in the summer, and sometimes even in the colder months.  My own online experience was terrific, and the people at choosehottubsdirect.com had a business ethic that I could really relate to.

I have some memories about my grandfather’s grocery, and how he would help out people in the neighborhood when times were tough.  Sometimes he would even go into debt himself in order to lend a needy family much-needed food on the table.  But what I liked most was seeing how he related to the customers.  He never tried to get them to buy things they wanted, only what they needed.  That was the same thing I sensed when I was looking for the hot tub, that the salespeople were there to help me figure out which set up would work best.  It gives me a great sense of warmth to know there are still people like that in the world, and tells me we can move forward with the new technology at our disposal, and still carry through with the ideas that worked so well in the past.

A rich area that might be known only for its mustard, if it had not been for the foresight of civilizations here from centuries ago, and the continued foresight of artists and designers today, Dusseldorf is an amazing place.  Truth be told, the mustard is really very good, and it almost makes the visit worthwhile.  But there is much, much more.  One of the most scenic places in all of Germany, and with comparatively mild weather, there is a lot here for tourists and visitors of all ages.  It also has the status of being one of the world’s most livable cities, and there are many attractions here that will help you to complete your adventure.

Local restaurants serve international fare as well as local favorites.  The German diet is heavy on meat and potatoes, but there are plenty of other options as well.  The sizable Turkish population brings a number of stunning culinary masterpieces to the table, and here, cafe life is splendid, and the tradition of the long and social meal here will make you wonder why the rest of the world doesn’t follow suit.  Be rest assured, there is always plenty of mustard.  And for hotels, Dusseldorf has spectacular offerings for all tastes and budgets.  Ranging from the affordable to the luxurious, they all offer splendid hospitality for your stay in Dusseldorf.

If you’re interested in keeping up with the latest fashion, this is the place to do it.  Dusseldorf is one of the centers of world fashion, offering excellent shopping, people watching, and events iike the Design am Rhein, where you can see some of the latest fashions from local avant-garde designers.  Its sponsor, Igedo, also hosts a number of excellent trade shows, and at all these events you can keep up with what’s coming down the line from the next generation of design geniuses.  And, if you’re looking closely, you can probably find the perfect garment in the perfect shade of mustard.
