Designing the Highways of NYC

Robert Moses was one of the principal designers of New York City during the 20th century.  He was involved in many large scale projects including the West Side Highway, the Triborough Bridge, and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.  He helped shape the city and in the process many run down neighborhoods disappeared.  Whether that was for the good or the bad is up for debate.  Certainly the city changed in many ways under his hands.  Many parks, bridges and playgrounds are a result of his influence.

Moses saw the new New York as a major influence on the rest of the country.  His particular focus was on highways, open parks, and tower blocks and his vision was of a city built for the automobile.  He built many highways through existing neighborhoods to the detriment of local communities.  He favored the open road as opposed to sprawling sidewalks.

He looked at the big picture in relation to city planning.  Large sweeping projects as opposed to individual designs.  The whole rather than the parts.

While getting rid of many identifiable parts of the city – his legacy is that he developed the infrastructure for the city we know today.  He used his power that he obtained from employment in some of the top government jobs in the city to develop his dream.

Car Rental is Essential in Los Angeles

Anyone flying to the City of Angeles has to realize that a car is going to be a necessity for their trip. The city is just too sprawling to be easily navigated by any other means. Maybe someone visiting a relative or friend can count on their host chauffeuring them around, but the rest will want to spend some time researching car rental Los Angeles in order to get the best possible deal.

The LA airport is located sixteen miles from the center of the city. That means that even getting to a hotel or convention center can be a major undertaking in a city with a somewhat confusing public transportation system. The metropolitan area is actually composed of numerous cities besides Los Angeles itself, which can make deciphering bus schedules even more confusing. Meanwhile, the shear distances involved in getting around the city will quickly price taxis out of the budgets of all but the wealthiest travelers.

Renting a car also brings a degree of freedom to a trip — and everyone knows that most Americans like to feel independent. Being able to control their own schedule and follow an impulse to explore the city makes a trip that much more enjoyable. While the traffic on the highways and in certain parts of the city may be maddening at times, most people would still prefer to be behind the wheel themselves than at the mercy of another driver.
