Cities XL has some of the best graphics out of any city building simulation and offers uprecendiented level of customization for players to create their own cities or recreate famous ones. Players can choose from several different terrain types and locals-design an island paradise or bustling metropolis. Cities XL 2011 received a score of 70/100 on MetaCritic.

For today’s daily deal Steam has discounted the exclusive game Dino D-Day to $9.99 (50% off the regular price of $19.99). In Dino D-Day player must fight against an army of dinosaurs resurrected by the Axis forces during WWII. It’s up to players to battle deadly Dilophosaur and Raptor brought back from extinction to fight for evil! Not only is the threat of evil dinosaurs enough, but they have been outfitted with deadly anti-personel and vehicle weapons too. Dino D-Day only a received a low 53/100 from MetaCritic, but after watching the trailer it looks like it might have enough campy fun to be really enjoyable.

Plants Vs. Zombies free today on Amazon Android Appstore

Plants Vs. Zombies

The Popcap game, Plants Vs. Zombies is available for download for free (regularly 2.99) today as the Amazon free Android App of the Day. Amazon.com launched their own Android Application Store back on March 21, 2011. Since its launch the Amazon Appstore has feature one paid Android Application a day starting with Angry Bird Rio. Since then the Appstore has given away games like Flight Control,Hex Defense, and Fruit Ninja.  In Plants Vs. Zombies players must defend their home against a zombie apocalypse with a arsenal of 49 deadly plants on 50 levels of zombie slaying action. Plants Vs. Zombies is only available as a WiFi download and will not work on some older generation Android phones including the: Motorola Droid, Lg Ally, Sony Ericsson X8, Samsung Transform, and a few others. Although AT&T claims that they are working hard to bring the Amazon Appstore to AT&T Android devices. If you don’t have the Amazon appstore installed on your Android device though you can purchase the applications on the Amazon Appstore online as well. Applications purchase on the Amazon Appstore will remain in your digital locker for download to Android device later.

It’s Ubisoft week on Steam which means that Steam will host a discount everyday this week on the developer’s games. Today is Far Cry day and includes the game Fry Cry and Fry Cry 2: Fortune Edition for only $7.50. Fry Cry was on the first game by the Crytek, makers of Crysis and Crysis 2, is a great open world first person shooter. In Fry Cry you are on a island and it’s up to you how you want to achieve your objectives. Players will utilize both air, sea, and land travel to navigate the game’s massive island and battle the deadly mercenaries scattered across it.

Tomorrow will be the last day of Amazon’s Ten Days of 70% of Games Deal, so obviously that makes today Day 9. And on sale today is Dawn of Magic 2 for PC for $9.00. Dawn of Magic 2 is a third-person fantasy RPG that combines elements of World of Warcraft with Diablo. It looks like you are restricted to only playing as a mage  in Dawn of Magic 2, but that’s not so bad right? Since there are are over 100 unique spells in 12 different magic disciplines the game at least is sure to offer some variety.

The next game featured on Steam’s Daily Deal is HOARD. HOARD is a simple multiplayer game that turns the medieval fantasy genre on its head. Instead of saving the fair princess from the deadly dragon, you are the dragon and your goal is to destroy the neighboring kingdoms. As the evil dragon you can burn castles and their guards to ashes, kidnap princess, and gather huge piles of gold. Although, has anyone ever addressed why dragons stock pile gold? It’s not like they buy anything with it. Maybe dragons were like the medieval equivalent to crows and they just like stealing shinny stuff. In any case, you get to play as a dragon so do whatever you want. HOARD recieved a 65/100 score from MetaCritic, but despite its average score it look like an entertaining game at any rate. HOARD is avaialbe on Steam for $4.99 (50% off regular price of $9.99) for today only.

Is it day eight of Amazon’s Ten Days of 70% off games deal already? Time sure flies when you’re playing great games. However, today’s game, Men of War Red Tide, probably won’t be counted among the list of great games. Men of War Red Tide is a third person real-time strategy game (RTS) set during World War II. The main campaign of  Men of War Red Tide put players in command of a elite squadron of Soviet marines fighting against the brutality of the Axis forces. Players can also play as the Romanian, Italian, and German forces throughout pivotal battles in history.

With all of the recent news stories about hacking over the past few months, it’s not too hard to imagine that there exists an entire hacker subculture out there somewhere. Well in the game Uplink that possibility is a reality; you are an Uplink agent a member of an underground computer hacking group. Alright, maybe the idea of an covert hacking group isn’t all that crazy, there is Anonymous after all. As an Uplink agent the player can choose to take on jobs from students to multinational corporations. The missions in Uplink range from altering a student’s grade to stealing company secrets from a rival corporation. Uplink is nearly a classic game by today’s standards and it’s simple interface really shows its age, but that is part of the appeal of the game. As a fictional hacker the current interface of Uplink really works to immerse players in an atmosphere that real hackers might be familiar with. Uplink is only $3.40 on Steam today (66% off the regular price of $9.99) and received a score of 75/100 on MetaCritic.

The deal of the week from Xbox Live has reduced the prices of the downloadable content for those games by 50%, which also includes avatar accessories. Highlights of the sale include the Broken Steel Game Add-on for Fallout 3 for only 400 Microsoft Points (MSP) and the Shivering Isles game add-on for Oblivion for 1,200 MSP. Mini Ninjas puts players into a comical world of miniature ninjas where you must use stealth and various ninja technique to defeat rival ninja factions. Microsoft Zune HD 16 GB On Sale

Microsoft’s Zune HD 16GB is on sale for today only for $89.99. Although, the Zune HD line of products have been somewhat discontinued in favor of the Windows Phone 7 it is still a very featured filled personal media player. The Zune HD interfaces with Microsoft’s Zune marketplace software, where users can download new music, movies, and games to play on the device a la iTunes. The device relies on a new user interface created by Microsoft called Metro and offers and refreshing alternative to often duplicated iOS layout. THe Zune HD has all of the feature that one would expect from a personal media player including the ability to play mp3s, videos, and surf the web. Day three of Amazon’s Ten Days of 70% Games deals is feature the popular strategy game Supreme Commander for $4.50. Supreme Commander lets players manage battles on a galatic scale with some of the most unique units ever to appear in a RT. For instance, one faction in the game allows players to build a giant armored spider known as the Cybran Experimental Megabot.

For today’s daily deal Steam is selling the game Metal Drift on sale for $3.40 or 66% the usual price of $9.99. The setting of Metal drift cast players as a driver in a futuristic destruction derby with flying cars and advanced weaponry. Metal Drift hasn’t received a score from MetaCritic at the time of posting.

Steam’s Midweek Ends at 4Pm EST Today

Catch the massively multiplayer game Rift on the last day of Steam’s Midweek Madness sale. Rift has been reduce 33%  bringing the price down to $34.99. Rift has made a splash in the MMO market for its great graphic and fun gameplay. Need more convincing besides my one sentence promotion for Rift? Alright. Well the game received a score of 84/100 from MetaCritic, so at least it is better than the dozen of other MMOs that have come out since World of Warcraft.  At the very least, you can play Rift until the next expansion for WOW brings you back to the Blizzard camp.

Day two of Amazon’s Ten Days of 70% Games deals is upon us. Today’s deal marks down one of the few city building simulation games that aren’t called “Sim City”, City Life to $2.99. City Life seems  like any other city building simulation game but it looks like players have a bit more control and flexibility over their cities compared to Sim City. The graphics and gameplay also look really great and the critics seem to agree; City Life receive a positive 76/100 from MetaCritic.

For today’s daily deal Steam is selling the game 18 Wheels of Steel: American Long Haul on sale for $3.40 or 66% the usual price of $9.99. 18 Wheels of Steel: American Long is a simulation game about *yawn* driving your very own Big Rig across the United States.  Steam has made the deal even sweeter though by offering the simulation gaming pack, which includes such hits as wait for it…John Deere Drive Green. In John Deere Drive Green players have chance to simulate harvesting corn, soy, and even wheat from their very own virtual farm with authentic John Deere equipment.  If Steam keeps offering exciting games like these for their daily deals then who knows what might happen. On a related note, sarcasm loses some of its appeal in print.  18 Wheels of Steel: American Long doesn’t have a MetaCritic score, which should serve as an indication of how great of a game it is.

This week’s midweek madness sale continues on Steam with a 50% discount on the game Worms Reloaded bringing the price down 50% to $9.99. Worms Reloaded is the newest member of the comedic turn-based war game. In Worms players try to eliminate other human or computer controlled worms using 47 unique weapons including bunker busters, and sentry guns. Worms has a MetaCritic score of 79/100.

Unlike the previous Ten Days of Deals which reduced video game price by at most 50%, Amazon’s newest promotion promises to reduce the price of the current game by 70%. Day one of Amazon’s new Ten Days of Deals brings S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl down 70% to $5.99 (originally $19.99). S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a first-person shooter that puts players in the role of artifact scavenger known as a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in an alternate reality feature in Russia. Similar to Fallout: New Vegas your character is stricken with amnesia and you must learn how to survive in the harsh Russian wilderness and fight off raiders and mutated creatures. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl received a MetaCritic score of 82/100.

Steam’s Midweek Madness sale is in full effect reducing last years hit, Singularity by 66% making it $10.20 (originally %29.99). Singularity places players in the role of Captain Nathaniel Renko, a member of covert reconnaissance team sent to investigate a failed secret Russian project on the hidden Katorga-12 island. Renko is caught in an explosion  and sent back to 1955 where he must unravel the secrets of the Russian time travel project and find his way back to 2010.  Singularity received a 76/100 on MetaCritic.

The second day of the Steam daily deal brings the game Majesty 2 down 66% to $3.40 (originally $9.99). Majesty 2 is a real-time strategy game that puts players in command of the kingdom Ardania. Player must defend their kingdom from fantasy creature like trolls, and dragon with an army of  warriors and heroes.  Majesty 2 received a MetaCritic score of 72/100.

Steam launches Daily Deals Program

Valve Software announced today that their popular gaming client Steam will now host daily deals on video games in addition to the service’s weekend and special occasion deals. Valve will be posting the day’s deal on Twitter and Facebook as well, so follow them for to up to date with their deals and promotions.

Today’s deal is Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and is down 75% to $5.00 for today only. In Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising players assume the role a solider fighting to defend the Sakhalin islands from a Chinese invasion.
